In many parts of the world, children learn computer skills at an early age. They use laptops in classrooms, access educational websites, and prepare for a future shaped by technology. But for many children in rural Uganda, touching a computer is still only a dream.
At Greenfield Kids Foundation, we are working to change that.
Located in Rubanda District in Southwestern Uganda, Greenfield Kids Foundation supports vulnerable children and orphans through education and care. The foundation operates Greenfield Nursery and Primary School, a school with more than 580 children who come from poor and disadvantaged families.
Despite the growing importance of technology in education, our school has very few computers. Most of our children have never had the opportunity to learn basic computer skills. Without access to technology, many students are left behind in today’s digital world.
Why Computers Are Important for Children in Rural Uganda
Education is changing everywhere. Computers are now essential tools for learning, communication, research, and future employment. Children who learn computer skills early gain confidence and opportunities that can transform their lives.
At Greenfield Nursery and Primary School, donated computers and laptops would help children:
- Learn basic computer skills
- Improve typing and digital literacy
- Access educational learning materials
- Prepare for secondary school and future careers
- Build confidence in modern technology
- Connect with the outside world through education
For many of our students, a donated computer could be the first computer they have ever used.
The Challenges Our Children Face
Most of the children we support come from families struggling with extreme poverty. Some are orphans being raised by grandparents or single parents. Others walk long distances to attend school because education is their only hope for a better future.
Although our teachers work hard every day, the lack of computers limits what children can learn. In a world where technology is becoming necessary for nearly every job, rural children without computer access face an unfair disadvantage.
We believe every child deserves equal opportunities regardless of where they are born.
How Donated Computers Can Change Lives
A single laptop or desktop computer can impact many children over several years. With more computers, we plan to create a simple computer learning center where students can begin learning:
- Microsoft Word and typing
- Internet research skills
- Educational programs for mathematics and science
- Basic digital communication
- Computer maintenance and technology awareness
These skills can open doors to higher education, scholarships, employment, and future leadership opportunities.
We Welcome Donations of:
- Laptop computers
- Desktop computers
- Used but working computers
- Computer accessories
- Keyboards and mice
- Educational software
- Solar or backup power support for computer use
Even older computers can still make a huge difference for children in rural Uganda if they are functional.
