Every child deserves the opportunity to learn in a safe and supportive environment. At Greenfield Nursery and Primary School in Rubanda District, Uganda, education is transforming lives every day. Our classrooms are filled with children who dream of becoming teachers, doctors, engineers, nurses, and community leaders. Yet one important challenge continues to limit these opportunities: the lack of a school bus.
Greenfield Nursery and Primary School, a project of Greenfield Kids Foundation, currently serves approximately 580 children. While our school has continued to grow, we do not have our own school bus. This means that transporting children for educational trips, sports competitions, cultural events, and other school activities is difficult and expensive because we must rely on hired vehicles whenever they are available.
Why a School Bus Matters
A school bus is much more than transportation. It is an investment in children's education, safety, and future.
Safe Transportation
Children deserve to travel safely whenever they participate in school activities. A dedicated school bus would provide reliable transportation and reduce the risks associated with arranging different vehicles for every trip.
Better Learning Opportunities
Some of the most valuable lessons happen outside the classroom. Educational visits allow children to experience science, history, agriculture, wildlife, technology, and culture firsthand. These experiences inspire curiosity, improve understanding, and create lasting memories.
With a school bus, our pupils will be able to participate in more educational excursions that broaden their knowledge and encourage them to dream bigger.
Participation in Sports and Competitions
Sports teach teamwork, discipline, confidence, and leadership. Unfortunately, transportation challenges sometimes limit our participation in sporting events and academic competitions.
Having our own bus would make it easier for our children to represent their school and community while developing important life skills.
Emergency Transportation
A school bus can also provide dependable transportation during emergencies when children need urgent medical attention or when quick transport is required during school activities.
A Long-Term Investment
We are committed to ensuring that the bus remains operational for many years.
To support maintenance:
- Parents and guardians using the school transport service will contribute a small transport fee.
- The school will allocate available resources toward proper management and maintenance.
- During weekends and school holidays, the bus may be hired by organizations, churches, schools, and community groups when it is not being used for school activities. Income generated will help cover servicing, repairs, insurance, and other operational costs.
This sustainability plan will help protect the investment and ensure that the bus continues serving children for years to come.
Our Goal
We are raising funds to purchase a Toyota Coaster School Bus that will safely transport approximately 580 children at Greenfield Nursery and Primary School.
