Education gives children the opportunity to learn, grow, develop confidence, and build a better future. But for many children in rural Uganda, staying in school is closely connected to something very basic: having enough food to eat.
At Greenfield Nursery and Primary School in Rubanda District, southwestern Uganda, we believe that supporting education means supporting the whole child. A child who comes to school hungry may struggle to concentrate, participate in lessons, or remain active throughout the school day. Providing meals is therefore an important part of creating an environment where children can learn and develop.
Supporting children through education and care
Greenfield Nursery and Primary School is a subsidiary project of Greenfield Kids Foundation, a community-based organisation working to support vulnerable and orphaned children in Rubanda District.
The school currently serves approximately 580 children, including children who come from vulnerable families and children who stay at school as boarders.
For many of these children, school is more than a place to attend classes. It is a place where they receive education, care, encouragement, and an opportunity to build a different future.

Why feeding children matters
When children have access to nutritious meals during the school day, they are better able to participate in their education and daily school activities.
At Greenfield, providing meals for hundreds of children requires ongoing resources. The cost of food, transportation, preparation, and other related needs can place a significant burden on a rural school.
This is why support from individuals, organisations, and friends of Greenfield can make a meaningful difference.
A contribution towards school meals can help provide food for children while allowing the school to continue focusing on education.
Education and opportunity for children in rural Uganda
Greenfield Nursery and Primary School began with a simple vision: to provide children with an opportunity to receive an education regardless of the difficulties they face.
Over the years, the school has grown from its humble beginnings and now serves hundreds of children in the community.
Our goal is not only to help children attend school, but also to create an environment where they can learn with dignity, develop their abilities, and prepare for the future.
Supporting a child's education can have an impact that extends beyond the classroom. An educated child can gain knowledge and skills that may help them become self-reliant and contribute to their family and community.
